Graduate Spotlight: Meet Krista Bowers
We had the chance to catch up with Krista Bowers, a proud graduate of our Dental Assisting Program, who proves that it’s never too late to start a career you love—and love a root canal while you're at it!
What sparked your interest in Dental Assisting?
Krista shared that the idea of helping people feel more confident about their smiles was something she had always been drawn to. “The thought of helping people feel confident in themselves with their smiles was always something that I found interesting and would love to have been a part of.”
Favorite dental procedure to assist with?
Surprisingly, Krista enjoys the procedure that most dental assistants try to avoid.
“I actually love what every dental assistant hated—the dreaded root canal. I just always loved it. At my office, the assistants are very involved in each step, which makes it even more rewarding.”
What makes Krista smile?
“The patients who come in afraid or self-conscious, and leave with the biggest smiles. That just makes my day.” Her joy in helping others feel comfortable in the chair is what fuels her passion.
Where has your journey taken you since graduating?
Krista began assisting in July 2020 but had to step back in March 2022 due to health reasons. Not one to walk away from the dental world, she transitioned to a front office role where she continued to connect with every patient who came through the door.
Where are you now?
Krista still works as a temp at the general dentistry office in Hopewell that first gave her a chance during the COVID pandemic. “They took a chance on this stay-at-home momma, and I’m still grateful.”
What did you love most about the Dental Assisting Program?
“What didn’t I like? The hands-on learning was exceptional, and I learn best that way. The instructors were genuinely invested in helping you succeed.”
Any advice to future dental assistants?
Krista says it best:
“Just do it! You won’t regret it. I only wish I had done it sooner in my life!”
